Its the Beginning of the Season Or Is It ?

Should There Be an Early Season ?

Should There Be an Early Season ?

Let’s Get Started

Its mid November hills and operators are hoping to gather excitement for their Opening Day.  With the recent possibility of opening terrain conditions may become another variable in Winter’s hyperbolic tale. Let’s not jump in with both boots.  So is it the beginning of the season ?

Belleayre, known for its short headwall has a sliver of a single run “open”. Gore-Whiteface has more terrain open than most but as not an Ikon or Epic affiliated mountain few will know.  Killington relishes its first to last day opening and closing has its usual North Ridge trials open but due to its Ikon affiliation considered too congested, too risky, and scatter bumps early.  Hunter and Windham have yet to invest in water or electric will wait to see what Thursday Nov 21st’s storm might bring may just be the right approach; at this time the storm could miss or underperform.  If you live within twenty minutes of these mountains then perhaps a turn or two would constitute bragging rites: if you are driving two and a half or more hours for opening day there will be little bragging. Nothing south of the Catskills has the possibility of opening anytime soon.  What is now more common than not is the compulsion for hills to advertise a pre-Thanksgiving open despite actual adequate conditions.  We won’t take riders and skiers into terrain we wouldn’t want to ride or ski just for profit.

So sherpas be cautious, be honest, be authentic, keep it real.  Be wary of the over stated. Check out Matthew Scott’s Snowology Weather & News on Facebook, he is the real deal when it comes to the winter scene.  We are here for the thirtieth year. Ask and we will provide the unadulterated facts.
